The Story of Karsten Homes
The Karsten family and team began their career of quality home building in 1965 with the founding of Golden West Homes, a single factory located in Fullerton, California. The overwhelming success of their homes, dedication and professionalism were responsible for their growth into one of the largest, most prestigious factory housing manufacturers in the Western United States. The Karsten family business had grown to encompass eleven production facilities when they made the decision in the 1990's to retire and sell the company to one of the largest homebuilders in the country.
In 1995, Harry and Joan Karsten realized what they really needed was an extended vacation, not retirement. They opened their first Karsten Homes facility in Sacramento, California under the direction of Harry's brother, Andy Karsten. Soon to follow was a new state of the art production facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico and then in April 2001, Karsten Homes opened their Northwest facility in Stayton, Oregon, under the direction of a Pacific Northwest veteran, Buck Wooton. With this return to the industry came innovative and exciting changes that gave life to a new product without compromising the solid integrity of the tried and true award winning quality product standards of the past.
Karsten Homes now employs oer 500 men and women known as teammates, and Harry knows and understands that they are responsible for their company's success. "In order to build quality homes it is important that you receive input from your front line workers," says Harry. Joan and Harry directly interact with all of their teammates during their monthly visits to each of their production facilities. Joan works with the designers to make sure that quality choices are available for the interiors of their homes, and Harry focuses on each general manager and all production staff. Together they also work to maintain an open door policy with all past, current and future customers. It is by choice that the Karsten family chooses to back the integrity of their product with their name.
